CRESTVIEW — Several assisted living facilities this weekend are recognizing their maternal residents.
Crestview Rehab will serve cake and punch for residents and family members at 3 p.m. Saturday. The event will also feature live music and singing.
"We decided to have it on Saturday this year because that is when most people come to visit their family," activities director Susan Brannon said. "We did our Mother's Day event last year on Sunday and we didn't have much of a turnout."
Brannon attributed the low Sunday turnout to families taking loved ones out for lunch.
Shoal Creek Rehabilitation Center residents will celebrate Mother's Day with a tea party including fruit and cookies.
"We are going for a more elegant event this year," activities director Amanda Owens said, adding that there will be musical accompaniment.
"It's going to be a light jazz afternoon," said Rodney Brown, a Crestview saxophonist.
This will be Brown's first time performing at Shoal Creek. Brown said he has enjoyed playing at other long-term care facilities.
"The residents always seem to be very appreciative," he said.
Silvercrest Manor will have a Mother's Day tea party at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Carrington Manor has no specific events planned for Mother's Day, but the facility invites families to visit their loved ones, or take them out to eat.
