CRESTVIEW — A woman faces a drug charge and giving a fake name to an officer charge after she was found with 14 hydrocodone pills during a traffic stop.
On Oct. 24 a Crestview police officer stopped a car on James Lee Boulevard after he noticed its tag lights weren't working. He asked the driver, 20-year-old Kwanna N. Durm of Crestview, for her identification but she didn't have any, explaining she'd left her wallet at home. He asked for her name and date of birth and she gave him both.
Meanwhile, another officer asked if he could search her car. She allowed it but was seen dropping a plastic bag containing 14 unknown pills as she got out of the car. They were identified as hydrocodone. Durm said the pills were not hers and she found them in the car prior to the traffic stop. Then, she said she was holding them for an unknown woman who lost them in the car on an unknown date.
After she was arrested for the drugs, Durm admitted she gave the officer a fake name. It was her cousin's name — she said she used it because her cousin has a clean record. Later, officers discovered the woman had never had a valid driver's license.
Durm was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and providing a false name. Her court date is Dec. 4.
