Sheriff’s deputies targeting drunk drivers on New Year's Eve

CRESTVIEW — Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies will patrol the area during New Year’s Eve celebrations to support the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” DUI initiative.

They will focus on finding and arresting impaired drivers to remove them from roadways with zero-tolerance DUI arrests, authorities said.

Common causes of crashes include speeding, following too closely, running red lights, making unsafe lane changes, careless driving, aggressive driving and driving under the influence.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office asks that drivers obey the speed limit, drive with patience and tolerance for other drivers, don’t text and drive, drive defensively, wear your safety belt and ensure children use appropriate child restraints.

Those who plan to drink and attend parties this New Year’s Eve should use a taxi or designated driver to get home.

Call the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, 651-7400, 689-5705 or 9-1-1, to report unsafe or impaired drivers.
