CRESTVIEW — The Kiwanis Club of Crestview is considering whether to contribute to a Girl Scout project that would commemorate Sandy Hook Elementary Daises who died in the Dec. 14 Newton, Conn., massacre.
Girl Scout Troop 687 members are rehabilitating a butterfly garden at Riverside Elementary’s kindergarten playground.
A trio of Daisies and their leader from the newly chartered group on Wednesday attended the Kiwanis monthly meeting.
Troop members and leader Tish Davies requested contributions and ideas to put new plants, a birdbath and a small bench in the garden. The girls plan to dedicate the bench in memory of Daisies who died in last month’s shooting.
“The girls are so excited about this project,” Davies said.
Kiwanis Club President Malcolm Haynes promised the organization would seriously consider the troop’s request, and praised their enthusiasm for enhancing their school’s appearance.
Other Kiwanis members offered advice, including suggesting Davies and the girls visit local plant nurseries.
Daisies, the youngest Girl Scouts, are 5 and 6 years old.
