Nine Northwood students injured in school bus crash (UPDATED)

CRESTVIEW — Nine Northwood Elementary School students were taken to the emergency room Monday morning after the bus they were riding on was struck by another vehicle.

All the students were treated and released from North Okaloosa County Medical Center by mid-afternoon, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The bus driver, Michael L. Wilson, 45, of Crestview, and the other 10 students were not injured, the report stated.

The driver of the second vehicle, Crestview resident Chi H. Nguyen, 55, suffered minor injuries and was taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center as well, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The bus was stopped on Mount Olive Road at JV Wooley Road at 7:40 a.m. picking up a student with its red flashers and stop sign on when Nguyen's GMC van rear-ended it, the release stated.

Nguyen, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was charged with careless driving and driving under the influence, the release stated.
