Police, FDLE on scene where teens found dead body in Crestview

CRESTVIEW — Crestview Police Department officers and Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents are on the scene where a group of teenagers discovered human remains in the woods behind a low-income housing development near the corner of Barr Place and Kennedy Place.

Crestview Police Department spokesman Lt. Andrew Schneider said the remains were discovered late yesterday afternoon but police did not want to disturb the decomposing skeleton until FDLE could arrive and process the scene.

Because the investigation is unfolding, it is not yet known how old the remains are, but they are partially decomposed. Police Chief Tony Taylor, who is on the scene, said the only way officials could identify the remains as human was because a skull was found in the remains.

Law enforcement officers are treating the incident as a suspicious death at this time.
