CPD report: Traffic and drug-related incidents increase

CRESTVIEW — In 2013’s first quarter, officers responded to 167 traffic incidents, a 5 percent increase from last year, the Crestview Police Department stated in a newly released report.

Half the incidents occurred between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thirty-five percent of Crestview traffic incidents occurred on South Ferdon Boulevard, the report stated.

The number of speeding citations declined from 910 in 2012’s first quarter to 672 in 2013’s first quarter, according to the report.

The department’s data ─which contrasted January through March 2013 with the same months last year ─ indicated that alcohol and drug-related offenses increased 21 percent from last year.

However, DUI citations decreased 22 percent, from 18 to 14 reported incidents.

The number of firearm incidents nearly doubled from last year's, with seven in 2012's first quarter and 13 incidents this year.

The department reported a slight increase in the number of incidents involving domestic violence, from 40 in last year's quarter to 45.

Service calls dropped 42 percent and arrests decreased 11 percent, according to the report.
