CRESTVIEW — Crestview High School’s French Club members will recycle aluminum cans to help fund their summer 2014 trip to France.
French teacher Chris Lanoue said individual students' expenses could be as high as $3,000.
After learning that schools in Noirmoutier, Crestview's sister city, raised thousands of euros by recycling scrap metal to help fund their October 2012 Crestview visit, the French Club started its own recycling drive.
While club members have been collecting aluminum cans at the high school, supporters from the Crestview Sister City organization established a collection site at the town’s south end.
Joe Coffield and Rick Goff erected a collection pen in front of a snowball stand on Goff’s property on State Road 85, just north of P.J. Adams Parkway.
A banner hanging from the pen, donated by Signs Galore, encourages residents to drop off their aluminum cans for recycling.
Lanoue, Goff, Coffield and former Sister City group president Jim Mills periodically gather cans from both locations and take them for recycling.
"It's going to take a ton of cans," Lanoue said. "I've filled the back of my Subaru three or four times and the most I got was $17."
