Inmate killed, two injured in traffic incident on P.J. Adams Parkway

An inmate transport van rests beside P.J. Adams Parkway after flipping several times following a sideswipe incident this morning.

CRESTVIEW — Police are investigating a traffic incident that resulted in the death of a Florida Department of Corrections inmate Friday morning on P.J. Adams Parkway.

The 6:30 a.m. incident involved an inmate transport van and the driver of a Honda Accord, Crestview Police Officer Brian Muhlbach said.

The car attempted to turn left onto P.J. Adams and sideswiped the transport van, causing the van to flip several times before it rested on the side of the road, police said.

Lawrence Houze died, a corrections department spokesperson said, adding that all the van's passengers were wearing seatbelts.

Five other people in the van — and officer and four other inmates — were transported to North Okaloosa Medical Center for serious injuries. The driver of the car had no reported injuries.

The names involved in the incident have not been released at this time.
