CRESTVIEW — When parents approached Crestview High School volleyball coach Kathy Combest about conducting a camp this summer, the decision was a no-brainer — with one exception.
"We had youth volleyball (in May) and the parents and kids wanted a camp right before school starts," Combest said. "I told them to pick a day, and told them to sign players up if they wanted to come.
"I told them I would do it, but I would have to have more than 25 players."
Mission accomplished.
The camp, for players in the second through eighth grades, runs 5-8 p.m. Aug. 8-9.
Cost of the camp is $30; registration will be held at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 8.
The camp’s time is no accident, as middle-school-age players look for an edge before tryouts begin.
"What we are trying to do is get all the skills," Combest said. "The sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders will be going back to school, and those girls will be trying out for volleyball.
“That will help them tweak some of their skills.”
