CRESTVIEW — Children combating bullying in local schools have received praise from parents, educators and other students. Most recently, the founder of Crestview High School's anti-bullying club recognized the founder of Riverside Elementary School's anti-bullying club.
Danielle Ellis, a 2013 Crestview High alumna who started the school’s S.O.S. Anti-Bullying Club, commended Carson Caldwell, a rising sixth-grader who started Riverside’s club. She presented him with a T-shirt, a certificate of merit and a Subway Sandwiches gift card.
During the spring semester, Danielle's club produced a video depicting results of bullying, including a local cemetery visit, emphasizing that some bullying victims turn suicidal.
"We're trying to get the word out. We don't want to lose any kids over this," Danielle's mother, Amber Ellis, said.
Through donations, the club will be able to make 1,000 copies of the DVD and distribute them at no cost, Amber Ellis said. The video will also be shown to middle and high schools throughout Okaloosa County.
