CRESTVIEW — The Florida Department of Education has approved a Bachelor of Applied Science in Management and Supervision program at Northwest Florida State College. Open enrollment is available now; classes will begin Aug. 19.
The new degree aims to meet Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s recent challenge for state institutions to offer bachelor’s programs costing students $10,000 or less.
Enrollees of comparable regional programs can expect to pay between $23,000 and $25,000 at a Florida public university over four years and up to $33,000 per year at a private Florida college, Ty Handy, NWFSC president, said. Classes begin in August.
The new degree includes specialization in supervision, public service management, healthcare management and human resources management. The college’s existing BAS in Project Management offers tracks in acquisitions, project management, quality improvement and technology management.
NWFSC research showed strong employment demand for management and supervision graduates, according to Dr. Sasha Jarrell, the college’s vice president for Academic Affairs.
In 2012, there were 7,178 jobs in 18 occupations linked directly to this bachelor’s degree in the college’s service area. By 2020, 7,816 jobs are projected for Okaloosa and Walton counties, according to the college.
