Northwood seeks muralists and other arts volunteers

CRESTVIEW — The north county's first arts and science academy seeks a few good muralists and other visual arts volunteers.

The 1960s-era school needs some dressing up, principal Dr. Donna Goode said.

"We have tons and tons of buildings and walls," she said of the complex with multiple breezeways. Many of the school's classrooms have high windows, providing ample wall space.

"We are looking for local artists to come in and help paint some murals," Goode said. "We can give them any kind of canvas they want."

Goode said the academy is also eager to recruit volunteers from the area arts community to help in classrooms, including a new visual arts program one of the teachers has offered to begin instructing after school.

"We're looking for volunteers," Goode said. "I know there must be lots of artists in the area to inspire our children."
