BAKER — Tommiko Parks couldn't find much to complain about Tuesday night after her Baker School volleyball team made short work of District 3-1A rival Chipley.
"Overall, I'm satisfied all the way around," she said. "We played smart at the net. We played hard in the back row.
"We played smart and we played within ourselves and we did every thing we needed to do to win the game. You try to teach all out all game, and whenever it translates over into your games that's a good thing because that means they are in tune to what's going on and they are into the game."
The Gators took control of the match early and were never threatened in taking the 3-0 win by scores of 25-15, 25-17, 25-11.
Lena Daoud was in serve in the first set as Baker opened a quick 3-0 lead. The Tigers did manage to pull even at 5-5.
Brittany Brunson's kill put Baker in front 6-5 and the Gators steadily built the lead the rest of the way in the set.
Early on the Gators showed they were ready to play as they hustled after every ball and played ricochets off the ceiling as if they were just another pass from a teammate.
Baker was so dominant that the only time the Gators trailed was early in the second set when Chipley jumped in front 4-1. Eight quick points allowed the Gators (7-3, 5-) to take the lead they wouldn't surrender the rest of the way in taking the set.
A quick 7-0 Gator run to open the third set was highlighted by kill from Hana Wadsworth and Hartley Moate. The first Tiger point of the set was offset by another Wadsworth kill.
Chipley never got closer than five points to the Gators as Baker ran away with the set and the match.
Wadsworth led the Gators with six kills. Brunson and Moate and Miranda Wadsworth each had four kills. Ashley Black added three kills and had two blocks.
Daoud had 12 assists to go along with seven digs. Alex Roy had 12 digs and four aces. Jordan Linzy had a team-best five aces to go along with six digs.
Baker's junior varsity won 2-0.
Although Parks was satisfied with the win she still sees a lot of work to be done.
"We are nowhere near the point we want to be," she said. "We've got a lot of growing to do. We are going to use this to keep rolling.
"Half the season is left and we are trying to build some momentum to the district tournament and the state playoff. We are looking at every game as an opportunity to take another step."
