Crestview man charged with domestic violence following 4-hour standoff

CRESTVIEW — A man is in Okaloosa County Jail following a four-hour standoff with the Crestview Police Department’s SWAT team.

Police arrested Demetrius A. Ferguson, 25, of Tom Sawyer Lane in Crestview, on Wednesday, awhile after an officer arrived at his residence in reference to a call that Ferguson had struck his girlfriend.

But not without incident; Ferguson — who reportedly would not come to the door, and refused to cooperate with law enforcement — was arrested after a four-hour standoff with the Crestview SWAT team and a negotiator. When Ferguson exited his residence, he attempted to physically fight with officers, police said, adding he was promptly detained, but remained combative during transport to Okaloosa County Jail.

Fergusonwas charged with domestic battery and resisting arrest without violence.
