LSU Veterinary School announces Phi Zeta Award recipient
BATON ROUGE—A Crestview man was recognized during the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine’s annual Phi Zeta Research Emphasis Day on Sept. 25. Phi Zeta is the national veterinary honor society that recognizes and furthers research in matters pertaining to animals' diseases and welfare.
Third place in the PhD category went to C. Brad Wilson of Crestview, a student in the Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences, for his project titled, “Inflammation and Oxidative Stress are Elevated in the Brain, Blood and Adrenal Glands During the Progression of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in a Predator Exposure Animal Model.”
Veterinary students who participate in the Summer Scholars Program enter research projects for consideration on Phi Zeta Emphasis Day. This year, the Merial Veterinary Scholar Program, National Institutes of Health, the Morris Animal Foundation, the Kenneth F. Burns Trust, the LSU Equine Health Studies Program and the American Humane Society funded some student research projects; LSU SVM faculty grants funded others.

Crestview man selected for Harding University marching band
SEARCY, Ark. — Nicolas Overton of Crestview has been selected for Harding University’s 2013-14 Thundering Herd marching band.
The band includes woodwind players, brass players and percussionists from all majors.
Overton, an instrumental music education major, performs at all home football games and some fall exhibitions and parades.
Harding is the largest private university in Arkansas with 6,295 students.
