BAKER — The Crestview Rotary Club’s Corn Maze offers North Okaloosa residents plenty of fall fun as they try to navigate the 18,000-foot path.

However, the 7-acre puzzle on Buck Ward Road offers some educational lessons, too.

"(Teachers) use this as a learning experience," Rotarian Pat Dingess said. "They show them the corn and how it grows."

Schools are encouraged to bus students to Baker so they can venture through the maze, take a hayride, interact with horses and possibly fire a corn cannon.

"We have had (a school) here every Tuesday so far," Dingess said, adding that eight schools have visited the site.

Special needs children from Silver Sands School in Fort Walton Beach visited on Tuesday.

Getting students outside the classroom can help them develop their social skills, teacher Robin Chapman said.

Keylen Bogan, 13, said he was lost in the maze, but said he had fun trying to elude his teacher.
