Free employment law workshop could benefit small businesses

Employment law specialist Amie Remington will conduct a workshop in Crestview Jan. 21.

CRESTVIEW — JobsPlus will present a professional development workshop in employment law Jan. 21 at the Crestview Area Chamber of Commerce.

"HR 101: Introduction to Employment Law Workshop" features employment law specialist Amie Remington, general counsel for Landrum Companies, a Pensacola-based staffing service.

Workshop topics will include employers' rights in the workplace, wage and hour laws, harassment prevention and workplace discrimination. A questions-and-answers session will follow.

The session will be particularly valuable to small-business owners, Anne Shaffield of the Crestview JobsPlus said.

"The smaller employers don't have access to an HR department so they're left with no place to turn with HR questions," she said.

The free program is presented in conjunction with the Emerald Coast Chapter of the Society for Human Resources Management, Landrum Staffing Services and the chamber of commerce.

A light lunch will be served and membership in the chamber of commerce is not required to attend the workshop.
