CRESTVIEW — Walker Elementary School's Student Council hopes that helping the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society is one agenda that carries over to future administrations.
A Valentine's Day visit to the Fort Walton Beach facility, during which they donated much-needed pet food and other items, left an impression, the student leaders said.
Bret Castille, 9, said he enjoyed the visit so much he would consider working or volunteering there when he gets older.
Ashley Ewalu, 10, said she would like to feed some of the animals during a future visit.
All council members said they want to continue to donate to the animal shelter next year.
Representative Shelby Allen, 10 — who said she would like to provide food donations for horses and other animals under PAWS' care — was the reason why the student leaders were there.
She read about PAWS' need for food in a newspaper and raised the issue before the council.
Council members and their classmates donated enough pet food, cat litter and other supplies to fill two vehicles, school counselor Alicia Humphrey said.
And that's not all, Shelby said.
"We want to help them even more," she said.
