North Okaloosa students among CHELCO Youth Tour representatives

A number of North Okaloosa students recently visited Tallahassee for two days as part of CHELCO's Youth Tour.

Attendees included Brandon Sessions and Joseph Ensor, Crestview High School; Stefan Sanguyo and Maryjel Quizon, Baker School; Joslyn Aughtman and Joseph Brannon, Laurel Hill School; Megan Matthews, Walton High School; Laura Ham, Freeport High School; Travis Shaw and Samantha Reeves, Paxton High School; Ricky Gal, Collegiate High School; Doug Linder, Rocky Bayou Christian School; and Amy Broadt, South Walton High School.

The students' schools selected them to attend and participate in a mock trial and Senate hearing. Later, they competed for the chance to win a June trip to Washington D.C.

Allison Fondling, Collegiate High School; Nicholas Wilkinson, Walton High School; Mary Kathryn Myrick, Freeport High School; and Ian Kampert, Rocky Bayou Christian School were selected for the summer trip. Judges selected Lucas Thompson, South Walton High School, and Jordan Pearson, Niceville High School, as alternates.

Youth Tour, a program organized by the National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association, allows local students to spend a week learning about government, history and the role of cooperatives.
