UPDATE: Southbound and northbound SR85 reopened following gas tanker rollover
CRESTVIEW — Southbound State Road 85 has been reopened following a gasoline tanker rollover at the Interstate 10 Crestview exit that snarled morning commutes. Law enforcement officers shut down a portion of the road on either side of the interchange.
Northbound S.R. 85 traffic is still being rerouted to the P.J. Adams Parkway-Antioch Road Corridor to U.S. Highway 90. The corridor was bumper-to-bumper westbound and slowed down as eastbound rubberneckers slowed to gawk at the steady stream of westbound vehicles.
The activation of the Antioch Elementary School zone at 8:15 further slowed Antioch Road traffic in both directions.
Westbound U.S. 90 traffic backed up almost to the city line as rerouted S.R. 85 southbound traffic headed for the P.J. Adams-Antioch Corridor but was delayed by the Antioch Road turn signal.
Eastbound U.S. 90 traffic was flowing smoothly, but became heavier at Antioch Road and on into the city.
A Crestview Police Department officer said public safety officials created a half-mile buffer around the spill, with another officer directing traffic at S.R. 85 and Aplin Road.
A few fender benders were reported on P.J. Adams Parkway at Villacrest Drive as eastbound parents attempted to cross the westbound flow of traffic to drop off children at a daycare center at the intersection.
