Crestview High student earns Sons of Italy scholarship

CRESTVIEW — Kaitlin Gammon, a graduating senior at Crestview High School, is the local Sons of Italy lodge's first $1,000 scholarship recipient.

Kaitlin, whose parents are Sean and Tina Gammon of Crestview, plans to pursue the medical field while attending the University of South Alabama.

"In addition to an excellent academic standing, Kaitlin has a well-rounded resume based in school organizations, athletics and community service, and has held a job as well," said a spokesperson with the Richard A. Capozzola Lodge 2865, Order Sons of Italy in America in Crestview.

She was presented with the scholarship April 16 during the lodge's meeting at Foxwood Country Club. Lodge President Thomas Hughes presented her with a book on Italian heritage and a medallion signifying the scholarship.

The Richard A. Capozzola Lodge 2865, Order Sons of Italy in America meets the third Wednesday, 6 p.m., at Foxwood Country Club.

The lodge preserves its regular members' Italian heritage and welcomes social associates to join the organization.
