Dept. of Children & Families: More than 1,900 NWF elder abuse cases reported

Since June 1, 2013, the Florida Abuse Hotline has received almost 45,000 reports of alleged abuse, neglect or exploitation of elderly or disabled adults statewide, according to a Department of Children and Families news release.

1,959 such incidents were reported in Circuit 1, which spans Okaloosa, Escambia, Santa Rosa and Walton counties.

The DCF released the data to raise awareness for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which is June 15.

Residents can report incidents on The Florida Abuse Hotline, 1-800-962-2873, or at the organization's website.
