CRESTVIEW — When Northwest Florida residents run in the June 28 Sandblast 5K Beach Run/Walk for Junior Lifeguards, their T-shirts will include Raley Capps' design.
The Walker Elementary School fifth-grader created the winning artwork for the Safe Fun at the Beach contest, Principal Jeanine Kirkland said.
Raley received a certificate and a $175 scholarship to attend an 11-day Emerald Coast Lifesaving Association Junior Lifeguard session. She also received free entry in the Sandblast Run.
Junior Lifeguards receive personal instruction in beach familiarization, CPR and AED or automated external defibrillator training, the development of self rescue, general rescue, paddle board and open water skills, according to the county Public Safety department website.
