CRESTVIEW — Karl Menz got a new lawyer on Monday and as a result his trial for the kidnapping of the son he’d lost custody of was postponed until Aug. 11.
His wife, Virginia Lynch, has an Aug. 11 court date after pleading not guilty in the case.
Menz and Lynch became subjects of a nationwide search after they allegedly skipped out of a supervised visit held at a Crestview Burger King.
The Department of Children and Family Services had removed their son, Emmanuel, from Menz and Lynch's care based on “abuse,” records show. Prosecutors haven't addressed specifics of the abuse alleged.
Emmanuel was still in Menz and Lynch's care when he was located safe in Henderson, Nev. The child was returned to his foster parents.
Menz has been charged with two felony kidnapping-related crimes and Lynch with one.
Joseph Reosti, hired to defend Menz, has not returned a Wednesday afternoon phone call for comment.
