Man's court date scheduled following sledgehammer incident

Grey L. Goodman

CRESTVIEW — A 50-year-old man — charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, without intent to kill, and firing a weapon or missile into a dwelling or vehicle — has a July 22 court date.

Grey L. Goodman, of Crestview, hit the windshield of a parked vehicle that his wife was sleeping in with a sledgehammer before throwing the hammer through the rear window, according to the arrest report.

His wife — who had a cut on her arm and swelling on her face, the report said — told police that he then threatened her. The hammer was found inside the vehicle.

Goodman told officers that he hit the vehicle, but didn't know anyone was in it, according to the report. He said he'd had tools stolen and thought someone was trying to steal his property.

He told officers he'd "had a few beers" and "might not have thought" before grabbing the hammer.
