Mattress sale to benefit Big Red Machine uniform fund

Proceeds from an Aug. 9 mattress sale will help buy new uniforms for Crestview High School band members, including freshman trumpeters Emily Englmeier and Christian McCraw, shown rehearsing with their fellow Big Red Machine members during summer band camp.

CRESTVIEW — Citrus sales? Passé. Car washes? Meh. Doughnut sales? Tempting, but no thanks.

Instead of these familiar fundraisers, the Crestview High School band’s trying something new to area schools:

A mattress sale.

“This has been successful nationally for the past nine years and supporters have an opportunity to save lots of money while helping the band buy their new uniforms,” band supporter Joanna Dean said.

The sale will feature brand names such as Simmons Beautyrest, and styles including pillow-top, orthopedic, latex, memory foam and gel mattresses, Dean said.

Twin, full, queen and king size mattresses will be available.

All mattresses are new and include factory warranties, Dean said. They are priced from 30 to 60 percent off retail costs. Layaway and delivery will be available.

The sale is part of a campaign to raise $90,000 for 300 new band uniforms, Dean said. The Big Red Machine’s current uniforms are 10 years old and have exceeded their life expectancy.
