The Florida Association of Counties presented its 2014 County Partner Award to Okaloosa County Sheriff Larry Ashley.
FAC annually gives the award to members of the county family that demonstrated outstanding leadership in helping FAC’s advocacy efforts during the legislative session.
“This year Sheriff Ashley was the sole recipient of the award due to his push for a resolution to the DJJ juvenile detention cost-share system, which has been the source of legal disputes between the counties and the state for more than a decade,” FAC Executive Director Chris Holley said. “FAC is grateful for Sheriff Ashley’s support and partnership.”
FAC’s guiding principles seek to preserve county home rule authority, to develop and implement statewide policies that improve public service and to protect citizens from the financial burden of unfunded mandates.
