Man receiving treatment at center for sexually violent offenders

CRESTVIEW — An Okaloosa County jury found Alvaro Ignacio Abaunza guilty of sexual violence.

Abaunza, 44, will be confined indefinitely at the Florida Civil Commitment Center, a secure treatment center for sexually violent offenders, according to the State Attorney’s Office.

The jury heard testimony from victims and three psychologists during the two-day trial in Crestview, the State Attorney’s Office reported.

Psychologists testified that Abaunza had compulsions to engage in deviant sexual behavior. They said there was a high risk that he would reoffend unless he was committed to the center.

Abaunza will remain at the facility until Circuit Judge Michael A. Flowers determines he is safe to be released.
