CRESTVIEW — The Auburn Water System, Inc. held its Monthly Board of Directors Meeting meeting Aug. 18.
Board members present included Donnie Cadenhead, president; Joe Kearley; Brenda Smith; Tim Bryant; Bob Lloyd; Ava Anders; and Mary Rankin. AWS staff who attended are Doug Sims, director; Julie Hooks, finance administrator; and Richard Laux, project and field supervisor.
John Woods of Sensus Metering made a presentation relating to meters, life spans, and defects and loss of revenue from faulty meters. Sensus has provided AWS with meters, the newer ones being the non-mechanical I-pearl type. AWS is considering replacement of all mechanical brass meters with I-pearls as part of a long-range plan.
Nathan Boyles, Okaloosa commissioner, was present to discuss a draft agreement between AWS and a landowner near Well No. 8 for discharge of water to his undeveloped property during testing and maintenance activities. After a short discussion, the board agreed to move forward with the agreement for discharge of water.
Following the general order of the business meeting, reports by staff were presented. Topics included: the company's financial and member status; the manager’s and operations reports; a new vehicle purchase to replace one totaled in an accident; and grant submission options. Five- and 10-year plans for the utility provider will be voted on later, since parts of the plans are ones requiring grant funding.
The board’s regular meetings are the third Monday of each month, at AWS, 3097 Locke Lane, Crestview, unless that Monday falls on a federal holiday. For more on AWS, visit its website.
