CRESTVIEW — Although National Grandparents Day is officially on Sunday, Riverside Elementary School invited students' grandparents to join their classes for a week-long celebration.

Today, second- and third-graders' grandparents were invited to the school. Several grandparents joined their grandchildren for lunch in the school’s cafeteria and visited their classrooms.

Throughout the week, grandparents are invited to participate in classroom activities, including reading to the class.

In Haley Kirby’s second grade class, students wrote letters to their beloved grandparents. The class also got the opportunity to ask grandparents about their school tenures.

Students inquired about the types of desks they used in school or if they watched a school-wide morning show program, like they do.

Crestview resident Jimmy Dubose shared how his teacher kept her classroom in line using a common classroom utensil.

“My second grade teacher… if you did anything wrong, she would get a ruler and beat your hand real good,” he said.
