Crestview teen dies of hit-and-run injuries

CRESTVIEW — Crestview Police reported this morning that resident Valerie Michelle Camacho, 17, passed away due to  injuries sustained in a car accident.She was pronounced dead at 5:30 a.m. by  Sacred Heart Hospital medical staff in Pensacola, where she was flown by AirHeart air ambulance following the accident.

The Crestview Police traffic investigation is ongoing under the command of Lt. Jamie Grant. No further information is available at this time, the police news release stated.

Crestview High School officials said parents of students who were upset by Valerie's death may check their student out of class. Principal Dexter Day said Valerie was an honor student at the school.

On Tuesday Sept. 15, Valerie was struck by a vehicle and was found lying on the southern shoulder of P.J. Adams Parkway near Addison Place Apartments. She had been reported missing by her family around 7 a.m. after she failed to return from her morning jog.
