CRESTVIEW — A 32-year-old Crestview man charged with resisting or obstructing an officer without violence faces an Oct. 21 court date.
Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputies were serving a warrant on Carl Eugene Ramey on Sept. 23, according to the arrest report. A family member let deputies into the home and escorted them to Ramey’s room, where he was in bed.
Deputies told Ramey that he had outstanding warrants for worthless checks, the report said. When officers told him he was being arrested, he “began to walk away.”
As deputies attempted to handcuff Ramey, he fled out the back door and ran through the back yard, scaling a privacy fence, according to the report. A deputy climbed the fence and gave chase, following Ramey through yards and over another fence.
The deputy called for backup and Ramey was eventually located in a wooded area, the report said. He said he “thought he broke his leg jumping the fence.”
He was transported to North Okaloosa Medical Center by EMS for treatment, according to the report.
