BAKER — Tuesday wasn’t a good opening night for the Baker School girls basketball team.
The Gators fell behind North Bay Haven Charter Academy 4-0 in the first 40 seconds of the game and never caught up as the Buccaneers rolled to a 61-36 win.

“The first game you never really know what to expect,” Baker Coach Jamie Kerrell said. “You come out essentially and I feel like we are almost a completely new team even though there are a lot of girls that played last year we almost have a new feel to us. I’m just really curious to see how things are going to play out.
“We didn’t handle the ball as well as I would have liked. Defensively, I don’t think we saw the ball very well. We were in the right spots but we didn’t see where the ball was.”
With junior post player Ashley Black recovering from a hand injury she suffered in the Class 1A region volleyball finals on Nov. 8 the Gators had no answer for North Bay Haven’s Jordyn Wobser.
Wobser scored six of her game-high 22 points in the first quarter as the Buccaneers raced to a 11-2 lead and never looked back.
Wobser and point guard Madison Adams were a potent one-two punch that teamed up to score 40 points.
Wobser put the Buccaneers in front 19 seconds into the game. A few seconds later Adams scored her first bucket.
Shelly Howington score Baker’s only basket of the first quarter with 7:10 left in the period.
The Buccaneers stretched their lead to 27-12 at the half and 43-22 at the end of the third quarter.
After getting off to a slow start and only scoring one point in the first half Amanda Parisi came on strong in the second half to lead Baker in scoring with 12 points. Hayley Melanson was next in scoring for the Gators (0-1) with eight points. Howington and Jessica Black each scored five points for Baker.
