CRESTVIEW — Students recently slimed Antioch Elementary School Principal Kelli Sanders from head to toe.
But it's OK; they had permission, and it was all in good fun.
Sanders and her teachers wanted to motivate the Aviators to meet their accelerated reading goals before the quarter ended. So they promised that if students met their goals with at least 85 percent accuracy, they could dump cups of slime on Sanders’ head.
Knowing the Aviators doing the sliming had reached or exceeded their reading goals made the messy experience worthwhile.
“Working on reading goals at the beginning of each school year can set the tone for the kind of reading work you expect from your students, and what they expect from themselves,” Sanders said.
Come Oct. 24, sliming day, 183 enthusiastic students “eagerly participated” in sliming Sanders, she said.
The principal planned for the event, bringing a change of clothes to school and showering afterward, but the applesauce-and-cornstarch slime proved tenacious.
“She took a shower but that didn’t get it off, so she had to go home and shower and come back,” school administrative assistant Michelle Geoghagan said.
