Zesty food and hot jazz combine at BRM jazz concert Friday

Bite-sized version of the New Orleans muffuletta sandwich are among Crescent City-inspired selections on the menu when the Crestview High culinary arts program caters the school's jazz ensemble concert Friday evening. Chef Chuck Tingle, inset, said his advanced students have planned a selection of hors d'oeuvres celebrating the Crescent City's zesty Creole and Cajun traditions.

CRESTVIEW — American jazz was born in New Orleans, so it’s fitting that the Crescent City’s Creole and Cajun-inspired cuisine is featured at Friday’s Crestview High School band jazz ensemble concert.

CHS culinary arts program instructor Chef Chuck Tingle said he and his advanced students have collaborated on an hors d’oeuvres menu in perfect harmony with the concert.

“My upper-level classes have been brainstorming hors d’ oeuvres ideas for the event,” Tingle said.

Here's what's on the menu:

•Appetizer display including cheeses, meats, marinated olives, cornichons and a Creole hummus dip with crackers and chips

•Miniature muffulettas, the traditional French Quarter sandwich of salami, ham and provolone topped with olive salad

•Minted green pea crostini

•Deviled egg mousse with pickled shrimp

•Bite-sized key lime pies

•King cake cookies
