CRESTVIEW — Saturday’s Region 1-7A boys basketball final between Crestview High School and Oviedo has been changed from 7 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Doors will open at 1 p.m. Crestview High School officials said fans will be allowed to start lining up at daybreak.
Crestview boys basketball Coach Greg Watson said the decision was made by the Florida High School Athletic Association. The FHSAA expressed concern for the safety of Oviedo students making the 420-mile trip home after an evening game.
Watson said the Crestview High School athletic department offered to pay for motel rooms Saturday night for Oviedo students attending an evening game. The offer was declined by Oviedo officials.
Last year's Region 1-7A boys basketball final between Oviedo and Crestview was moved from Crestview High School to the Arena at Northwest Florida State College after reported complaints from Oviedo officials about the size of the Crestview gym. The game was played at 7 p.m.
Seating capacity in the Crestview gym is approximately 600. Tickets will be sold on a first come basis.
