CRESTVIEW — If Northwood Arts and Science Academy students start greeting one another with a hearty “Bonjour,” it's because of three French college students and the Crestview Area Sister City Program.

As part of the school’s “The Places We Will Go” school year theme, the Sister City program set up a display about France in the school library.

Thursday, four classes met Pierre Fonteneau, Pierre Guilet and Antoine Norrito, the first students to study at Northwest Florida State College under an agreement with the University of Nantes.

Cougars learned about French traditions, history, pastimes and food. Stadium food in Guilet’s home province of Brittany particularly surprised the kids. Instead of hotdogs, people pass around galettes, which are meat-filled crepes.

Northwood's kids were impressed by the country’s hundreds of cheese varieties, and several students won miniature Eiffel Tower keychains by correctly identifying the colors of the French flag (red, white and blue).
