CRESTVIEW — Lillian Miller, a third-grade student at Riverside Elementary School, defeated seven competitors from throughout the county in the Florida School Nutrition Association’s Future Chefs competition.

This year’s competition theme was “healthy snacks.” Sodexo, which operate's the county school food program, was a sponsor of the contest.

“The future chef competition was lots of fun,” FSNA regional director Betty Jo Marcotte said. “We had eight contestants making some really yummy healthy snacks.”

Lillian’s winning recipe was “Yummy in My Tummy Parfait,” a concoction featuring a layer of low-fat yogurt, a layer of granola, and then a layer of fresh fruit including strawberries, blueberries, kiwi fruit and apples.

She topped the parfait with yogurt and granola.
