BAKER — Tyler Oliver and Jonathan Gatewood won their respective weight class leading a contingency of 11 Baker School weightlifters that advanced out of the Class 1A subdistrict meet.
The Gators will return to competition April 1 when they travel to Panama City Arnold for the district meet.
Baker had 14 lifters in the meet that included athletes from Gulf Breeze, Choctawhatchee and Rocky Bayou Christian School.

Oliver claimed the 183 pound title with a bench press of 315 and a clean and jerk of 245. The bench and combined total of 560 pounds was a personal best for the Gator senior.
Gatewood, who also is a senior, was the class of the 199 pound division bench pressing 255 and cleaning 255 for lifts totaling 510 pounds.
Gator weightlifting Coach Andy Valmus is pleased with the success of his team.
“Ever since I’ve been at Baker, in whichever sport I’ve coached – football, basketball or weightlifting, the Baker boys have always competed,” he said. “We sent 11 out of 14 qualifying today, which is pretty good.
“I feel like if we can get some of our guys in the top three in the section we have a good chance of some of our guys going to state again.”
