Crestview woman dies in apartment complex blaze

CRESTVIEW — A woman is dead after a Sunday fire engulfed her unit in an apartment complex.

Crestview Fire Department firefighters discovered Gloria Nell McTear's body after extinguishing flames at 707 Amos St. The structure is a two-story apartment complex containing six apartments.

At approximately 1 a.m., Crestview Police Department responded to the fire. Shortly after officers arrived on scene, several Crestview Fire Department units arrived and began to extinguish the fire.

Upon their arrival, flames engulfed the entire bottom floor of the structure.

After the fire had been extinguished, a search of the bottom floor was conducted and McTear's body was discovered.

The State Fire Marshal Office has determined that the cause of the fire was accidental. From all indications, the cause of death was attributed to smoke inhalation, according to a CPD news release.
