CRESTVIEW — Two weeks into spring practice, Crestview High School football Coach Tim Hatten still sees room for improvement heading into tonight’s Red and White scrimmage at Jack Foster Stadium.
“We’ve got a ways to go,” he said. “We are not bad. I feel like we are a little more athletic. We are able to do a few more things, but we’ve got to get a little better.”
Hatten said he’s seen some of the greatest improvement in rising junior quarterback Rusty Moorer as he continues to grow in the position.
“I just think the knowledge level by Rusty to handle what we are doing (is the biggest area of improvement),” Hatten said. “He sees defenses and the movements on defenses and what he kind of needs to do to get us into a good situation and check us into a good play.
“That’s probably been the most pleasing thing to see.”
Spring practice takes on a different tone this week and next week as things wind down.
The Bulldogs were set to go in full gear the first two days of the week before scaling back today in preparation for Thursday’s scrimmage.
Next week, Crestview will practice Tuesday and Wednesday before hosting Niceville May 28 in the spring game, marking the end of spring practice.
Hatten won’t make too big of a deal over the spring game.
“It wouldn’t bother me if they turned the scoreboard off,” he said. “I wouldn’t care.”
