Baker School Senior Field Day contestants like up for the start of a hopping relay race.

BAKER — With a graceful dive — more of a muddy belly flop, actually — Baker School senior Calvin Blankenship slid home, scoring a winning point for his slip-n-slide kickball team.

The Class of ’15 had soggy fun blowing off steam, as well as water balloons, cans of shaving cream and a well-aimed garden hose, during Senior Field Day at the south end Griffith Stadium.

“We’re excited to be graduating,” class president Alyssa Lee said, pausing to cheer on her team. “We’re having some fun before we go, though.”

Wednesday's games, organized with help from math and science teacher Stacy Burlison, included water balloon popping, in which players fended off attackers by squirting them with shaving cream.

Slip-n-slide kickball required players to dive down wet, soapy mats and tumble into a wading pool marking each base. Home was a water-filled depression perfect for a running dive-and-slide.

The fun concluded with a relay race; each player had to bounce to a marker and back, handing the giant bouncing ball to the next teammate.
