Crestview police investigate mysterious package at chamber of commerce

Crestview Police Department crime scene investigators secure a suspicious package found in the vicinity of the Crestview Area Chamber of Commerce and the Crestview Community Center Monday morning.

CRESTVIEW — Crestview Police Department crime scene investigators are on-scene in front of the Crestview Area Chamber of Commerce office on Commerce Drive.

Police spokesman Lt. Don Fountain said officers responded to a call Monday morning when a package was found in the area of the chamber of commerce and the Community Center.

“There's some kind of suspicious package that may have had some meth-making related materials in it,” Fountain said.

As a precaution, police closed off the scene until the package could be removed and any residue cleaned up.

Crestview Public Library Director Jean Lewis said staff members and patrons observed the hubbub of activity across the Community Center lawn and wondered what was happening.

“We thought maybe they were getting ready to Life Flight someone out,” Lewis said.
