Crestview man faces drug charges after traffic stop

CRESTVIEW — John Sherman Rakas, 41, of Crestview, is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. His next scheduled court date is July 7.

Sheriff's deputies noticed Rakas riding his bicycle without lights at 1:30 a.m. May 25 on U.S. Highway 90, according to the arrest report. After the stop, dispatch said that Rakas was wanted in Lee County for violating probation.

Deputies arrested Rakas, performed a pat down and found 10 Lortab tablets in his pocket, the report said. Deputies also reportedly found a broken glass smoking pipe and a cut straw under his bag, as well as methamphetamine and five other pills in the area where he left the road.
