New Crestview chamber board chairman seeks harmony in business, community

CRESTVIEW — Attendees at the Crestview Area Chamber of Commerce's Installation and Awards Banquet on Saturday will hear The Hillside Singers’ “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing,” perhaps more than once.

That's no coincidence.

Marian McBryde, the chamber’s chairman-elect, chose “Building a successful community in perfect harmony” as her administration’s theme.

“The theme is two-fold so we’re all working for the same goal,” she said. “Our chamber works best when it’s in perfect harmony along with the rest of the community.”

McBryde said Crestview and North Okaloosa County are fortunate because civic and community organizations already cooperate with one another, supported by area businesses.

“We’re all working toward the same thing, which is a better, stronger community," she said.

While McBryde’s “building together” theme is serious, she said that’s no reason the chamber can’t have a little fun with it. Games will be on the dinner tables Saturday evening.

“We’re going to have some fun at the dinner,” McBryde said. “Some tables will have Jenga and some tables will have some Legos, so we can build together.”

Pit master Jeff Jones will cook a steak dinner, McBryde said, while dinner music features hits culled from the chamber’s almost seven decades of serving Crestview and North Okaloosa County.

Just don’t expect any formality.

“It’s going to be kind of crazy and laid back,” McBryde said.

BEHIND THE MUSIC

Chamber of commerce Chairman of the Board-elect Marian McBryde’s administration’s theme, “Building a successful community in perfect harmony,” follows outgoing Chairman Alicia Booker’s theme, “Lights, Cameras, Action” and before her, Dennis Mitchell’s “Laissez les bons temps rouler.”

McBryde’s theme paraphrases The Hillside Singers and The New Seekers’ 1971 hit song, “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing,” a reworking of a popular Coca-Cola TV commercial jingle.
