CRESTVIEW — The Hub City is the No. 10 best place in the United States to be a bank teller, according to a new study.
Crestview ranks just behind Panama City; Jacksonville; Naples; Barnstable Town, Mass.; Pensacola; Miami; Longview, Wash.; Waterbury, Conn; and, at No. 1, Olympia, Wash., according to ValuePenguin.
The New York City research firm said it reviewed data from 395 cities and towns for the study. Bank tellers' pay — starting at $26,650 on average — along with Crestview's cost of living and the demand for these jobs factored into the results.
So, why is it beneficial to be a bank teller here?
"Tellers smile for a variety of reasons, but perhaps most of all, they smile because the ATMs can’t," ValuePeguin stated in a news release.
That's interesting because "the cash machine, which first showed up in 1969 (in a wall outside of a Chemical Bank in Rockville Center, New York) was supposed to have made the teller obsolete by now."
