Crestview man facing weapons charges after traffic stop

CRESTVIEW — An Aug. 4 court date is set for a 22-year-old Crestview man on charges of carrying a concealed  weapon and weapons possession by a convicted felon after an Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office traffic stop.

Darrell Dion Williams is also charged with failure to register a motor vehicle.

Williams was stopped around 12:30 p.m. July 1 after deputies ran a check on his vehicle tag and found it was reported stolen, according to a police report.

He allegedly said the car belonged to his girlfriend, who was incarcerated, and he didn't know how the tag had ended up on her car.

He was arrested for driving with no vehicle registration, the report said. The report stated a loaded pistol was found under the driver's seat.

Williams told deputies he purchased the gun for $20 from a person in Alabama, according to the report. Williams is currently on probation after a felony conviction in September 2014.
