CRESTVIEW — A renaming ceremony in honor of the late Durell Peaden is scheduled at the FAMU Crestview Pharmacy School on Woodruff Avenue.

The event is 3-4 p.m. Oct. 26 at the  College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, 153 W. Woodruff Ave., Crestview.

FAMU Provost Marcella David, Florida Sen. Don Gaetz, Florida Sen. Greg Evans, former State Sen. Charlie Clary, Crestview Mayor David Cadle, and Margareth Larose-Pierre, associate dean of the FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences' Crestview Center, will be present.

"The FAMU Crestview Education Center was the singular vision of Peaden," a FAMU spokesperson said. "His goal was to provide additional opportunities for advanced training in the health professions for students in rural Northwest Florida.

"Peaden was also instrumental in the development of the FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences' Crestview Program, leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy degree.

"The building will serve as a permanent reminder of his legacy and generosity."

A memorial plaque with Peaden's name, dedicated by his fellow Class of 1963 graduates, is downstairs in the reception area.

The plaque was recently donated by Peaden's Crestview High Class of 1963 graduates. A lot of them even attended first grade with him at Northwood Elementary.
