BAKER — Fresh off a district championship, Baker School’s football team finishes the regular season on the road at Liberty County on Friday.
The game will be a battle of district champions. Liberty County. 6-3, is the District 4-1A champion. Baker, 7-2, is the District 1-1A champ.
“Our seasons are very similar,” Baker Coach Matt Brunson said. “They are district champions with a couple of losses. We’ve got a tough task ahead of us.
“This is going to be an experience for us. We are going to charter (a bus) over. We are going to leave early and we will be competing in a playoff environment even though it is a just a Week 11 game.”
The Gators and Bulldogs both lost to Blountstown. Baker beat South Walton and Liberty lost to the Seahawks. Baker and Liberty County both beat Chipley and Northview.
The third Bulldog loss came to Rutherford. Baker’s other loss was to Walton. Walton is the District 1-4A champion and Rutherford was the second place team in the district.
Brunson said Liberty will line up in a base 3-man front on defense. The Bulldog offense will be a little more difficult to dissect.
“They run a lot of misdirection, counters and traps,” he said. “It’s kind of a Wing-T, Double-slot look. Liberty has probably got one of the most athletic teams we’ve seen with the exception of Walton.
“Our goal is to make it through this game, be successful and keep our guys healthy for the playoffs. We want to beat Liberty County, but at the same time, it’s going to be tough.”
